There is a simple beauty in symmetry that is both pleasing and powerful. Most photographers use this technique at some point to organize elements that creates powerful compositional balance in their images.

There are several types of symmetry that you can explore; vertical (left/right), horizontal (top/bottom), radial symmetry (radiating from a central point) and reflective symmetry. Symmetry is not necessarily the same as exact mirroring of the elements in the image. It’s  about opportunities to create strong visual balance. There are many examples on the internet that you can explore and you can find examples in just about every photographic genre from macro to landscape, from portraiture to architecture, from street to nature and wildlife. choose your favorite genre!
